“We should talk,” I said, watching him dart around his apartment as if he were looking for something.

“About?” he asked, stopping briefly to ponder.

“Everything,” I said. “What happened last night between us… That can’t happen again.”

His tongue grazed his bottom lip quickly. “And what makes you think I’m eager for another rendezvous with you? Perhaps everything I said to you was a lie in order to get you into my bed. If Stellan hadn’t interrupted us, I would’ve succeeded.”

His eyes turned cold, like he was trying to hide something when he looked at me. Probably the same thing I was trying to push away every time I looked at him.

“You lie now,” I said. “You weren’t lying then… I think that fairy did something to me in the woods. Something more than just healing my wound… Aine said she had a plan for you, something that would keep you subdued should you decide to interfere. She went on and on about how it was you who had made it possible for Liam to kill Cathan. What if she’s using me to get to you? What if they did something to me to control you.”

“You’re saying this thing between us is fake?”

“I think so…”

“Grand,” he said and continued his search.

“I don’t want to believe it. Trust me… When you touch me, I feel things I thought I’d never feel again. Things I want to feel every day for the rest of my life.”

“You keep telling me to trust you… You come crashing into my life, dragging me into a problem I didn’t care to be involved in… ‘Trust me,’ you said… A fucking fairy, of all things, but trust you, nonetheless… And against every fiber of my being telling me not to, I did. Then, you showed me what was to come for the two of us. Something I didn’t want to believe, but there you were. ‘Trust you,” you said again. You made me feel things I’d long forgotten, made me think maybe I wasn’t doomed to a life of desolation… Now, you say, ‘Yeah, that shit you felt? All bullshit… Trust me’.”

“Lucien,” I said. “I didn’t want any of this, and it kills me to know it isn’t real. I want it all to be real, but it could be yanked away at any second.”

“Nope. I don’t have time for this right now,” he said. “I have to go.”

“Go?” I asked desperately. “Now? Where?”
